The Man With No Shoes

A little something I wrote and illustrated back in 2012. I thought it would be a good idea to turn it into a positive message to everyone for the holidays.

This message was inspired by a famous quote my father told me years ago when I was a child. The old adage was written by a medieval Persian poet named Sa’di or Shaikh Sadi of Shiraz in 1259 CE in the written works “The Gulistan” meaning “The Rose Garden.” There have been several translations, but the original quote is very similar to my first line, which is “the man with no shoes murmured until he met a man with no feet.” I just wanted to expand on the idea and loop it, so it comes full circle as life usually tends to do.

And no, those are not my feet, in case anyone is wondering. It’s a composite image I created in Photoshop, using about five different photos I got off the net, I then converted it to grayscale, and then digitally painted in most of the snow. The magic of digital art!

TRANSCRIPT:

The man with no shoes complained until he saw the man with no feet.

The man with no feet complained until he saw the man with no legs.

The man with no legs complained until he saw the man who was paralyzed from the neck down.

The man who was paralyzed from the neck down complained until he saw outside his window the man who had to stand out in the snow with no shoes and beg for food, money, and work.

From a certain point-of-view, there will always be those who have it better than you and those who do not. So try to have a positive point of view and be thankful for what you do have.
